There’s no reason I should have to buy special dice for a single game. It's honestly and truly my favorite published RPG product. I mention City of Lies a lot on these forums. Emerald Empire has some cool stuff in it, also. If you do get any other books, I suggest Enemies of the Empire and The Great Clans. It made the game feel like 1st Edition (popular with the fans, despite it being a bit wonky on the power scale). It cleaned up all the cool stuff that was introduced in 2nd and 3rd edition (but were weird and clunky). The old d10 Roll and Keep system is a lot simpler to grasp. Or I can use regular dice and use a chart to tell me which faces represent which symbols, then use another chart to tell me what it all does. My main hangup is I either need to buy special dice just for the game and use a chart to tell me what everything does. But, that doesn't mean I would never play it. I'm currently reading the 5E book, but so far, it just doesn't feel the same. Not sure if my gaming preferences would help here but most of my favorite games to play are Call of Cthulhu and Runequest, D&D 2nd and 5E, Westend Star Wars, Vampire The Masquerade, and OVA. Not to try and get an editions war going or anything, but just as a newb I wanted to see if from the fans perspective, what is the best edition to start with, or the edition that really captures the most meaningful parts of the game that seem to make it so popular with, what seems to me, a number of people. But that doesn’t mean the same is true for all their games. Granted I’ve only ever watched them played (StarWars specifically) but things about it irked me. I know that fantasy flight published the current editions and while I love their board games, historically I haven’t been super into their tabletop games. But i heard it enough to want to try it out. It might just be that people that are fans are really really fans. So I’ve never played any edition of it but for awhile now in passing I hear it’s one of the best tabletop games out there. I have a question about Legend of the Five Rings.
